Opening yourself up to showing the vulnerable side is never an easy feat. It involves tearing down walls and barriers, and showing people that you aren’t the perfect, smiley person you lead them to believe you are.
Being truly naked always seems to expose these insecurities and negative thoughts we all have in our minds.
Depression isn’t something you can just will away, but it is something you can work to control. Depression sucks, it happens to everyone, and it can ruin lives, relationships and growth.
Depression is also able to be controlled. Don’t think you are alone in this battle. We have all been there, and there is no shame in talking to a friend, a family member or a doctor about the struggles we go through. We all have them, it’s just a choice we make if we are going to allow them to control us or if we are going to take the reins in our own lives.
We are the ones in the drivers seat of our lives, and if we just let go of the wheel and sit there, you will crash. But if you calmly guide yourself through this sticky situation, you can get through it, and you can succeed.
There is an old Cherokee story about life, with a grandfather talking to his grandson…
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
